I’m not usually big on snacking.
I don’t really enjoy eating things like bread or sandwiches outside of regular meals.
But one day, I tried something called a beignet, a pastry enjoyed in the US.
I was blown away by now unique and delicious it was.

Beignets are a kind of donut enjoyed by people in New Orleans. You take a square piece of dough, fry it until golden, serve it as a set of three, and finish it off with a generous dusting of powdered sugar.
The result looks quite elegant.

They have a great combination of a crispy texture, soft fluffy bread inside, and sweetness from the powdered sugar.
Just writing about them now is making my mouth water.
I might have to go get one today.

저는 평소에 간식을 즐겨 먹는 편이 아닙니다.
식사 외에 빵이나 샌드위치 등을 먹는 것을 그리 좋아하지 않습니다.
그런데 어느 날 미국 사람들이 즐겨 먹는다는 ‘베녜’ 라는 빵을 처음 먹어보고, 너무 이색적이고 맛있어서 신선한 충격을 받았습니다.

베녜는 미국 뉴올리언스 지역의 사람들이 즐겨먹는 도넛의 일종입니다.
네모난 빵 반죽을 기름에 노릇하게 잘 튀겨서 세 조각을 한 세트로 구성한 뒤, 그 위에 슈거 파우더를 넉넉하게 뿌려서 완성합니다.
완성된 모양은 제법 멋스럽습니다.

바삭한 겉 식감과 부드럽고 푹신한 속 빵의 맛, 그리고 슈거 파우더의 달콤한 조합을 한 번에 느낄 수 있습니다. 
지금 사연을 쓰며 베녜를 떠올리기만 해도 군침이 돌아서 오늘도 베녜를 먹으러 가야겠습니다.
